“No one is safe from the rat race,” they would always say this but as Jane moved to Ooty and decided to stay there for the rest of her life their thoughts changed.

Jane was a normal girl, living a normal life, earning her bread by doing a 10-6 job and just existing. The only not so normal thing about her was her Dreams.

Her dreams of going away from the city life, her dream of following a no-gadget life, her dream of Living instead of just existing.

She had mentioned these dreams of to all the people around her and everyone would only tell her how impractical and impossible it was to make such a big transition in Life.

But she never gave up on her dream. She knew that if she believed in it, her dream would come true. She would go to the office and search for ways to earn money remotely.

There was a lot she needed to learn, every time she would think about finally making the big transition, she would feel that she wasn’t ready yet.

Jane- Ready or not ready, but her dreams were ready!

There was a place in Jane’s office from where she would see the sunset every day. Even though the sun would set amidst the concrete jungles but in a small part, there were many trees with birds around it.

This was the only place where Jane found solitude in those 8 hrs of her complete ‘misery’.. No misery would be too harsh, let us say 8 hrs of doing what she didn’t like to do.

One day, as she was looking at the sunset and she felt from the heart that now she was ready. As soon as she felt this, she knew it was The Time. She resigned from her job right there and promised her boss to help him with everything but she won’t come to the office from the next day. Her boss agreed because he couldn’t afford to lose her.

Jane’s dream was finally coming true. She laughed and danced but also realized how tuff it’s going to be for her from now on.

In a week, she had wrapped up her stuff and moved to Ooty. She stayed in a hostel until she found a place for herself. She would do her house hunting throughout the day and work at the night to pay off her bills.

10 days went by and she got a place that was exactly the way she wanted. It was a small beautiful wooden house with a huge backyard and front yard. She had already made a blueprint of what will go where in her mind.

2 years later, now when people go and see Jane they don’t feel like coming back from her little place. She has bought the entire place now. It’s such a surreal beauty to everyone’s eyes.

A hundred plants all around the house with a small pond of forever blooming lotuses, all organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs. She has also petted few stray dogs and cats who are always on the hunt for birds that come to eat grains on the rooftop. It’s so much fun to watch their small battle.

Money for her comes from the small evening cafe she runs in her front yard, students she teaches in the school nearby and her freelance writing. Her dream of gadget-free life still not achieved but it’s getting in the money so she’s fine with it.

Today, looking at her I realize this is what happiness looks like and how even after so many obstacles with Faith you can achieve whatever you wish for.
