How To Make Khichdi- The Ideal Ayurvedic Meal

One of the most widely used internal purification programs of Ayurveda is Panchakarma. It eliminates the toxins from the body and rejuvenates it.

And in Panchakarma, the only thing you can eat for 7 days is Khichdi. It is a wholesome, nourishing, balanced food and is an excellent protein combination.

It is easy to digest and good for all the three doshas, and it is also cleansing.

Here’s how you can make this simple yet amazing dish-

Ingredients-

  • ½ cup basmati rice
  • ½ cup mung dal
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 teaspoons of ghee
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
  • Coriander for seasoning

Instructions-

  1. In a small bowl mix rice and mung dal together and wash them thoroughly.
  2. Take a cooker and put it on a medium flame. Add 1 teaspoon of ghee and let it heat for a few seconds.
  3. Put mustard seeds and cumin in the ghee and let it splutter.
  4. Now put the rice and dal mixture in the cooker and let it cook for a few minutes.
  5. Add 1 teaspoon of ghee now and season the khichdi with coriander leaves.
  6. Put the lid of the cooker and let it cook for 3 whistles.
  7. Once done, let the cooker cool down and your khichdi will be ready.
